Tout d’abord diffusé comme un complément DVD au dernier album du duo éléctro-pop Air-Talkie Walkie, Electronic Performers suit le groupe lors de sa tournée 2002. Mini-chronique où la musique- cinq compositions – rythme et lie les images de passages sur scènes et des coulisses. Les concerts allient aux sons électroniques des performances visuelles étonnantes qui rendent sur le plan graphique l’atmosphère hypnotique des mélodies. La parole a du reste une place tout à fait minime dans ce court métrage : juste quelques échanges anondins, dans le fond, car le montage obéit avant tout aux rythmes de la bande son. Il est plus question ici d’ambiance, de traduction visuelle des travaux du duo que d’un « reportage people » sur des jeunes stars en tournée. Les séances d’autographes, les jeux, les longs voyages en car ne servent que de prétextes, d’anecdotes et ce sont surtout les plans de la lune, du ciel, des nuages, de l’air qui apportent ce qu’il faut de poésie et transforment ce qui ne pourrait être qu’un modeste documentaire en véritable film musical. Texte de Heïdi Fleisher AIR’s 2002 European tour was filmed through the enchanted lens of graphic artist bruno Dunckel. The fact that Dunckel comes from a designer background explains how live concert and road trip footage become delicious eye candy that transport us into the hypnotic atmosphere of AIR, focusing on détails that filmmakers might have overlooked. With minimalist dialogue and upbeat stylistic editing, the film is a suavely psychedelic blend between a musical documentary and an extended video clip. The script has some of the sharpest, hardboiled dialogue of any film from that period. Richard Conte and Susan Hayward were terrific as usual, but the scene-stealer award should go to Edward G.
